Meals at Gaia Sagrada

Cook Your Own Food (Or Communal Meal) When No Retreats
You will have access to the commercial kitchen, when there are no retreats in progress, to cook your own food. When a retreat happens, the smaller communal kitchen would be the one you use if you don’t want to pay for communal meals from the commercial kitchen. You might want to think twice about that, though, and try out some of the communal meals that we make for retreat participants. You will be envious of the delicious stuff being cooked! Yum!
Buy Retreat Meals as You Want Them
If you would like to get one of the retreat communal meals (only available during retreats):
$15/day all you can eat shamanic dieta, mostly raw foods, also bread, grains and soups. Guaranteed to feel healthy!
It’s less than you would spend in the city for a meal that is served to you hand and foot, and you don’t have to go anywhere. We’ll even do your dishes for you! Simple and easy! You have to let us know ahead of time, though, so we make enough to include you!
Vegetarian Not Required, Cold Meat OK – Can’t Cook or Heat Meat
We don’t require that YOU be a vegetarian. Only that all meals COOKED at Gaia Sagrada are vegetarian. If you want to keep sandwich meat in your section of the fridge, or meat already cooked that you buy in the city, that is fine. However you cannot heat it up or cook it at Gaia Sagrada. The meat has to stay cold so it doesn’t offend vegetarians or make the kitchen smoky, greasy, and hard to keep clean.

Let’s buy THE LAND next door to Gaia Sagrada!

Help us buy the 24 acres next door to Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center in Ecuador! We asked the owner for one month to come up with the money. This is too good an opportunity to miss! We can do a downpayment of $100,000 and pay $10,000 per month, all of us together! IF 10 OF US GET TOGETHER ON THIS, IT WOULD WORK! The price is now $430,000 and it’s the right price, a more than fair price for Ecuadorian land with developments on it.

It’s amazingly beautiful and a smart investment because this land already has a built in agricultural business so it would be financially self-sustaining for those who live here. With an operational cottage industry that could support all maintenance costs of the land and improvements (like putting in a swimming pool, sauna and hot sub center for everyone to use! Want to?) Eventually, maybe everyone involved could make money once the business is more developed, since we have to start it up first. We are thinking about drying vegetables, herbs and fruits and exporting them. If you have some ideas for agriculture, let us know!
    • Built in agricultural business ready to start! (will support community maintenance costs and pay for improvements)
    • Huge warehouse sized refrigeration for storing veggies, fruits, flowers, etc, whatever we are going to do with the biz end of this land (dried fruits, veggies and herbs for exportation? Got ideas, let us know!)
    • 25 greenhouses with fully installed and operational irrigation systems run by computers
    • Community center already built with kitchen, bathrooms, event areas, and more
    • Computerized filtration system for both potable drinking water and also irrigation water
    • Some small cabins that you can live in while you build your house (need a little renovation)
    • 220 electric, 110 electric
    • Potable water
    • River rights for massive amounts of irrigation water
    • Incredible beauty in the land and all around us in the mountains!
Price is now $430,000 (down from $600,000) and that is his bottom price that he can accept to cover his bank loan. The land is well worth that price, along with all the buildings and developments on the land. This is truly a fair Ecuadorian price! We know what a fair price is for land here, and this is it!
Not only would you be buying a place to build your house, but also becoming a member in an agricultural business association. This is a sweet deal!
Do you want to come live in Ecuador next to Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center? You can be our neighbors!

Starship Gaia Sagrada: Meet the Command Team on the Bridge!

Here’s some great news. All this time at Gaia Sagrada a few of us have been doing our best to keep up with everything that needs to be done, but it’s been quite the challenge. Gaia Sagrada is bigger than we can do without more help. We were trying to keep it kinda casual, but there just isn’t enough time in a day to wear so many hats for just a few people. We needed someone to manage the volunteer team, someone to take over the grounds, and another to run the kitchen. Those are our three main departments, and we were getting worn a little thin trying to run them all.
Help is here at last! We were getting a little too tired with only a skeleton crew doing the millions of things that have to be done to make an Ayahuasca retreat center run smoothly. We managed to pull it off, but finally, as we go into 2015, we realize we do need to sleep sometimes!
So let me introduce you to some of the new helping angels who are here now, taking command of the Starship Gaia Sagrada, and assisting you with your journey into the final frontier, which is YOU!

Commander Stark is in the HOUSE!

Aron is helping us get it all on paper, creating systems, charts, training manuals for staff and volunteers, and creating a whole new level of organizational ways of doing things. It’s been really an answer to a prayer. We call him Commander Stark (all kidding aside, this really does feel like flying a Starship sometimes!) I’m so busy I can’t make the time to organize all of it.
Most of the techniques and methods of how to do things here are all in the notebook in my head, so I am glad Aron is here getting everything all this stuff about how to do things out of our heads and into a system that others can follow so I can get some more rest and not have to be there for every little detail that needs to be done. He’s going to get everything running like a top in short order, and then has to go do some other things this summer, but will always be back to Gaia Sagrada as a second home! He’s always welcome here.
Aron’s a great guy and everyone loves him too! A strange thing about him, though, he runs around in shorts and a T-shirt and never seems to get cold at night! Go figure. There’s a couple others like that around here, too, and it just never ceases to amaze me that’s possible! It’s warm during the day, but nights in the mountains can be a little chilly and yet he’s still in shorts. We can’t figure it out.

The Amazing Carol, Tracy and Edith Team!

We have three amazing ladies, Edith, Traci and Carol as the heads of the departments. (Oooh boy, we have departments now!) They are beautiful, shiny souls. I love these ladies, and they keep it all moving in a loving way. It’s just wonderful to see. They are fun, sweet and everyone loves them just like I do!
I’m trying to get used to my new role of not being the person wearing all hats and stay out of their way. As you know, that can be a challenge for workaholic like me. I don’t know how to act if I don’t have waaaaay to much to do. What am I to do with myself if I start to have free time in life again? (Gulp!) I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel though, it’s coming! I’m actually going to have some free time soon. I might even sit in a hammock and do nothing for a change and just watch butterflies fly around or something. Hell will have frozen over, of course! Ready for that?

Edith – Garden Goddess Extraordinaire!

Edith is the garden goddess turning Gaia Sagrada into a quaint paradise village (working on the hobbit house in the shire area right now, I just bought her a cute little birdhouse and mailbox for it that she doesn’t know about yet!). She has great taste, really knows how to take a rather blah looking spot and turn it into something magnificent. She’s the one who created the goddess temple that you enjoy so much when you are here. It’s truly a special feeling in there.
She has such great ideas that we simply cannot say no! She’s making this place look wonderful. Green light, sister!
She is also a really positive gem, a red headed Aussie gal who says “ay-deen” when she’s really saying eighteen. We love her accent! If you wanna make Edith happy, well, go jump in the garden with her, get your hands in the dirt, and learn how to say “ay-deen” RIGHT!

Tracy – 1st officer to Commander Stark

Tracy is the general manager for the time she’s here, and always has an open invitation to come as she pleases. You know, scheduling the work exchange team, keeping track of what’s been done and not been done, keeping everything on schedule, it’s no easy task! Tracy is worth her weight in gold!
When she says she’s passing through Ecuador, we open the doors for her and roll out the red carpet because we love her so much! Her organizational skills are amazing and she has a incredible smile that looks like the sun! She is a world traveler who is blessing us with her presence for a while. Lucky us! We would love to have her stay forever, but we’ll take whatever precious moments with her we can get.
Check out her really cool travel blog at http://thecuriousrambler.com/ and be impressed with her courage and perspective of the world. She has a really thoughtful and intelligent input on all the places in the world she visits, and she has no fear about anywhere she goes. She’s a true explorer!
Oh, and did we tell you she takes the most beautiful and interesting photographs and puts them there for the world to see? Tracy has a real eye for detail. What a talented lady!

Carol – Goddess of Nutritional Abundance and Good Ol’ Fashioned Sweetness!

Carol is our food angel who is inventing stuff we never thought of, and making sure you are healthy and nurtured as we take you on this whirlwind transformational experience. She also has all kinds of cool knowledge about strange and unusual things like how to maintain a kombucha mushroom project, gluten free and non toxic things to use instead of what is usually used in food, and she also has a wealth of information on all kinds of ways to take care of yourself and stay healthy.
Did I also mention that everyone just loves having her tell them what to do? Some people have a special talent where people WANT to do things for them rather than feeling like they HAVE to do things for them. Carol has that gift!
Even if she has to remind you, in her gentle sweet way, no smoking in the community center, or to wash your dish after breakfast, you ask, “How clean can I do it for you, and do you have more dishes I can help you with? I’m yours!” rather than grumble, grumble. We have seen her get even the most stubborn amongst us to ask “How high” when she says jump because she is such a wonderful person and says it in her sweet Southern comfort kind of way that you just WANT to do it!
Now THAT is a rare talent and a gift in my opinion!

Thank you to the Bridge! My Prayers Are Answered!

I just have to say thank you to these wonderful people who have taken command of the Starship Gaia Sagrada so we can all get some sleep sometimes now that the work is spread out a little more amongst us! We are so grateful to them, and they are an answer to our prayers. Gaia Sagrada needed more hands for a while now, and now they are here!
One day I was in the sweat lodge during one of the ceremonies, and suddenly I felt a lot of angels and spirit guides around me, the ones who work with our shamans, participants, and this land, and they were embracing me so lovingly I cried. They said, “You never ask for anything for yourself. We want to give you something. You work so hard to make everyone safe, loved and provide a life changing opportunity for them, but it’s time for you to have something you want. What do you want?”
I didn’t have to think long about what I wanted. I knew. “Time. That’s what I need and want. Time to just be with my husband, time to smell the roses, time to have a private life again. We need more help so we can rest a little more and enjoy the beauty all around us and not be working all the time.”
I felt something like a quake underneath reality, as if the framework under my world was shifting, moving, and the spirits were all smiling and said, “Done. Help is on it’s way.” With a last embrace, they were gone and on the job of setting up reality to call the souls to Gaia Sagrada who would become new staff and would benefit from being at Gaia Sagrada, and who we would benefit from having in our lives and fall in love with.
Look! Proof that prayers are answered! Thank you dear beautiful ones for being the answer to my prayer!

Role of Residents During Events

(Note: The retreats are using all housing so there are no space for non-retreat participants to be here on a monthly basis at this time. We are working on building more housing so we can open up this option again soon. Keep an eye on our site!)
When there are activities for the retreat participants in the community center, please respect the community central space during workshops and sessions at the center. That means quiet on the patios outside the center, the community building itself, and the general area. Please practice silence, no conversations, and keep it quiet during the meetings. During meetings, it might be a good time to enjoy a walk, or have the hot tubs all to yourself.
After meetings are over and before they begin you are welcome to use the community center areas as you normally do. Meetings are generally 2 hours long and most of the time there are only two meetings a day at the community center, morning, afternoon, or evening. Sometimes the group meets in another place like a gazebo, garden, or some nature spot. When that happens, the community center is all yours. Hours and locations of meetings will be announced so you know when and where everything is happening.

Meeting times:

  • mornings: 10 am – 12 noon (a good time for your morning exercise walk?)
  • afternoons: 1 – 3 or 2 – 4 pm (time to nap or play in the garden?)
  • evenings: 7 – 9 pm, unless it’s a shamanic ceremony which goes all night (sauna or hot tub?)
If you are really quiet and sneaky, you can go upstairs to the second floor of the community center while meetings are in progress and do yoga, but ONLY if you are super-duper quiet, like a teeny, weeny, little mouse. Actually you have to be even quieter than a little, teeny mouse. OK, you can probably get away with a really super, duper, quiet whisper and no one will hear it downstairs, but if you do not possess these magical superpowers of quietness, please wait until the meeting is over and occupy yourself with some other activity. If you sound like a herd of cows walking across a wooden floor, this option is not for you!

Staff Positions at Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center

Have you ever wanted to have a fun and unusual job at a retreat center? This is your chance! It doesn’t pay a lot, but it will be the experience of a lifetime! Work side by side with Christine Breese, founder of University of Metaphysical Sciences and Gaia Sagrada Retreat Center. The jobs are fairly open and flexible, and you would wear more than one hat. It would depend on what is needed at any given time. If you can cook (don’t worry, we have recipes and the cooking is simple), teach yoga (not required), and enjoy working with people on vacation, then this job is for you! Experience is not required, just a great attitude!
The kind of retreats Gaia Sagrada offers at this time are Ayahuasca and San Pedro shamanic medicine ceremony retreats with Ecuadorian shamans. It is quite interesting. Gaia Sagrada has grown to the point that we are fully booked as much as two to three months in advance now. It is probably because our prices are so low, lower than any other retreat center of this type in South America, as we operate at expenses level only and don’t do this for profit.

Time Commitment

If you are interested in being on staff at Gaia Sagrada, you must first come for two months in a volunteer position so we have time to get to know you, see your work and also so you can make sure this works for you as well. We have to make sure this is a good fit for both parties first. Volunteering At Gaia Sagrada. We always choose staff from those who come and do work exchange first. Being in a volunteer position is basically your job interview process!
To be in a staff position, you must commit for 6 months to being here in Ecuador at Gaia Sagrada. The two months in a volunteer position must come first, and then a 6 month commitment to a staff position. There is no back pay for the two months of volunteer work exchange. You would be paid for the remaining 6 months if you stay on as a staff member. To get the 6 month visa extension (which gives you a total of 9 months in Ecuador) you will need to have at least a savings of $2500 in your bank account or a monthly income that the Ecuadorian government can see and have a printout of.
It is possible to get a visa extension through the Ecuadorian consulate nearest you before you come, or from immigration once you are here. The usual documents they want are a copy of your passport and a 3 month printout of your bank account showing that you have $2500 or evidence of a monthly income of about $1000 per month. With that, you can get the opportunity to stay in Ecuador for up to 9 months per year. Ecuador wants to make sure you won’t become a liability for them and run out of money before you return home.
Between retreats you can take a few days to travel a little and do other things in Ecuador if you like, but it is always important that you are here during retreats and a few days before and after the retreats.

The Work

The work entails cooking simple vegetarian meals for 25-30 people (no certification required in Ecuador), gardening if we need to plant some plants, being the go-to person for guests who need this or that, and giving the work exchange crew directions. If you are comfortable with it, you can lead workshops and activities for the retreat participants. If you teach yoga, this can be part of your hours as well.
You won’t be bored, and you wouldn’t feel like you are working, really! The work isn’t hard at all. It is a resort and vacation type of thing, so you will be working with people who are in a great space.
What’s more, you will be helping people with a truly transformational and life changing experience which is amazing to watch. The transformations people go through in two weeks are incredible!

What you get for 40 hours of work per week

  • Shared room with another retreat participant, work exchange volunteer, or staff person. Sometimes, if you are with a retreat participant during retreats, you end up with the room to yourself between retreats. In the meantime, we are working on creating a house just for staff, but we don’t know when that will be ready yet.
  • Food during retreats and between retreats. The food between retreats is more basic and you make it yourself and hours are not counted for food prep or dishes clean up between retreats. Everyone helps themselves. If you want special things you would need to buy them yourself,  but food is not expensive. We provide the staples and regular produce.
  • $150 stipend, which is more than enough spending money for a few nights out on the town, toiletries, transportation to the city, etc. Ecuador is very affordable.
  • Free wifi
  • Use of hot tubs and sauna
  • 55 acres to hike on (and soon we are adding another 33.5 acres, attaining the land next door)
  • Discounts for shamanic ceremonies if you are interested ($95 per ceremony)
  • Free participation in workshops and sharing sessions during retreats
  • Free yoga classes if we have yoga at the time you’re here
  • Rest in between retreats, it’s not so busy during down times at Gaia Sagrada, no pressure, and it’s peaceful and quiet
  • Love! Be part of a really incredible family and team at Gaia Sagrada!

If you are interested, fill out both our Volunteer Form and mention that you are interested in the staff positions at Gaia Sagrada.

What a wild ride! Dante’s Camino – Balancing the Extremes

JULY! What a wild ride! Us ladies decided to call this group Dante’s Camino (Dante’s walk or Dante’s way) as we were preparing ceremony food (exotic fruit!) one day. It became really clear to everyone that what we focus on is amplified in our lives, and that it is so important we focus on things that are positive, life enhancing and productive, rather than that which we don’t want in a negative pole vibration. It is our choice and responsibility to choose wisely what we want to make real in our lives. We visited the extremes and came out clear and healed in the end. It was quite a wild ride!

This beautiful group came together and through the thick and thin of it supported each other’s growth in all that needed to be cleared. The first couple ceremonies were indeed cleansing, and then the sweat lodge San Pedro ceremony sealed the deal, cleansing out the deeper negative energies in a profound way. It was very clear the next day how cleansed the group was after the sweat lodge ceremony. It was a breath of fresh air for such an intense cleansing to take place.

The final ceremony was indeed profound and beautiful, with such a change in everyone that we could hardly believe it ourselves how transformed everyone was. NEVER have we had such a blue sky without a cloud in it for the final ceremony like we did that day. Everyone was soooooo joyful it could hardly be contained. It was the day everyone got their wings and could journey back into the world as the angels that they are.
Well done, you beautiful souls of Dante’s Camino! You have walked the extremes and came out balanced and clean in the end. Well done! Continue to choose wisely and lovingly between the dark and the light, and put your attention on love. Thank you for being such a daring, courageous and beautiful group and facing the shadows like warriors of light and love. Love conquers all, as we got to see first hand! Let love be your guide.
