New Volcanic Rocks for San Pedro & Ayhuasca Ceremony in Sweatlodge

We got some new rocks! I know, that sounds pretty funny,  huh? Not a lot of people get so excited about rocks, but we do! Especially when they are new volcanic rocks for our San Pedro and Ayahuasca Ceremony in the Sweatlodge (Temezcal in Spanish).
First we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Csaba and Mika for their kind and generous donation toward this effort, as the cost of going and getting these rocks was a little bit daunting. It wasn’t cheap to rent trucks, taxis, pay drivers, hotels, etcetera, even though the rocks themselves were free for the taking at the land where it was near the volcano. If it wasn’t for Csaba and Mika, we couldn’t have done it!
A BIG thank you to you two beautiful and lovely souls. Now we’re going to have an even hotter sweatlodge than ever, thanks to you! I’m sure all the future participants will be saying thank you too with a big groan as they sweat out all that “stuff” that it’s time to let go of, ha!

Read our Adventure Story with our Ayahuasca Shamans and the Volcanic Rock Hunt!

Salvador and Paulina, our ayahuasca shamans, went with their daughter, Marko (one of our lovely volunteers) and Christine Breese to find some new volcanic rocks for our sweatloge ceremony during the ayahuasca retreats at Gaia Sagrada. We weren’t quite sure where to go… to get them, but we figured being near a volcano would be a good place to start! It’s not like you can just go to the store and buy volcanic rocks. You have to go out in the country and find them!
We took a night bus to Riobamba and stayed overnight in an affordable but nice hotel. The driver of the truck stayed at the same hotel. We met didn’t get to the hotel until 12:30 am, and were finally in bed by 1 am. Then in the morning at the breakfast buffet we met the driver (Ruben) and his wife. We couldn’t all fit in his truck so we got a taxi to take the extra bodies (us) along for the ride.
We left Riobamba and were headed for the volcano called Chimborazo, but the driver of the taxi (Julio) told us that there weren’t that many rocks to be found there but there were a lot of rocks to be found near Banos, a popular tourist destination in Ecuador. So we decided to let the taxi driver lead the truck there.
What a good decision that was. As we were driving toward Banos, there was someone burning cedar wood near the road, a sacred tree in the ayahuasca ceremonies and the san pedro ceremonies that our ayahuasca shaman and san pedro shaman love to use in ceremony for cleansing moments when they come up. That was affirmation from the universe that we had made the right choice to go to Banos instead of Chimborazo. We all took a blessing from the smoke in the taxi as we passed.
When we got close to Banos, we drove around and found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! A publicly accessible quarry type of place with thousands of volcanic rocks! Yay! Success!
We all happily went about picking rocks, and even Salvador and Paulina’s 5 year old daughter joined in, as well as the truck driver, his wife, and the taxi driver. Within a couple hours we had a truckload of delicious looking, seriously solid volcanic rocks that would heat up the Gaia Sagrada sweatlodge double what the river rocks we were using could do. The truck driver, his wife, and the taxi driver were having fun too because they never had such a strange and weird request from some silly people who wanted a bunch of rocks! There were a lot of laughs. What joy these rocks came into our lives with!
It was a good time had by all.  We went the last 2 km to Banos and had a great lunch, browsed the rafting, ziplining, and hiking brochures in the local shops, and then headed back to Riobamba to get on the bus back to Cuenca. When we arrived in Cuenca we met the truck driver and unloaded the rocks with laughter at 1 am and then collapsed into bed afterward! Today, the volunteers are washing the dirt off the rocks.
We are ready to give you a seriously hot sweatlodge more than ever now! It was already hot. Now during these next ayahausca retreats let’s sweat out all those toxic emotions, thoughts and bad foods we ate in our lives, and be reborn into a clean and new life!

A Little Bit of Mopey In All of Us! Ayahuasca Healing Retreat

This is Mopey! He used to be a really mopey dog, moping about and acting like nothing will ever be good, just mopin! All the time moping around! Let me tell you about our little Mopey story and how the ayahausca healing retreat we all receive here heals the mopey in all of us! You don’t need an ayahuasca healing to to heal the mopey in you, but Mopey got one just by being around all the ayahuasca healings that have happened here at Gaia Sagrada! Maybe you DO need an ayahuasca healing retreat to cure the mopiness in you, as it helps to interrupt the mopey programming, that’s for sure!
Mopey belongs to our next door neighbor and gets bullied around by the other dogs at her place. She’s our wonderful abuelita grandmother who we all know and love, and moves her cows around every day on our land. You’ll see her when you’re here in her colorful Ecuadorian skirt, shirt and shawl. We have no idea what… she calls Mopey, but he earned that Mopey name here as we would always try to cheer him up, and we have long talked about him getting an ayahausca healing! We just couldn’t figure out whether or not we would be able to make him drink the ayahuasca! (Just kidding!)
Our next door neighbor is not much of a dog whisperer though, as dogs don’t have the same place in society as dogs from our Western culture societies do in the USA, Europe and other places. Dogs in Ecuador, for the most part, are just alarm systems and they don’t feed them much. Her dogs are fed better than most and she doesn’t abuse them, but she doesn’t love them up like we do! If there are social problems among the dogs, well, that’s for them to work out in the opinion of an Ecuadorian.

Mopey’s Ayahuasca Healing Retreat!

So Mopey has long come to our side of the fence and hung around, hoping to be allowed to be here, trying to be invisible for the most part. Of course nothing is invisible to our dogs, Yogi, Shanti and Raja. At first they hassled Mopey because Mopey wasn’t supposed to be there, but Mopey would turn belly up and beg, “Please accept me? Please can I be your buddy? Please? I’m a good doggie!”
Finally Mopey was accepted by us and our dogs, slowly, sort of, kinda. We didn’t want any more dogs, three was enough, but we just couldn’t help it. Mopey is a really sweet, gentle dog and we couldn’t help our hearts. Technically he still belongs to our neighbor, but he sleeps and eats for the most part at Gaia Sagrada. He lives both places, really. He plays with our dogs and naps during the day with them, and every now and then our dogs pretend to play a game of “Get off our turf, go back to your house!” but we can all see it’s just a game and the dogs are wagging their tails and smiling while they do it.
What is really cool about Mopey is that he isn’t so mopey anymore. He actually smiles now. We probably should rename him Happy! He is happy now, really happy. Every once in a while he reverts back to mopey-land, but he snaps right out of it with a kind word or a pat on the head. He switches back to happy easily enough. He’s a funny dog with a sense of humor too now!

Gaia Sagrada NOT Affected by Coastal Earthquake, We Are In Mountains

Some people have asked if we are affected by the earthquake that happened in Ecuador. We are fine, nothing has been damaged, and it was just a small tremor here, nothing big. Cuenca is on granite so it is pretty stable and doesn’t have the devastating earthquakes that some places in the world do. We researched the fault lines of Ecuador before deciding where to buy land and create the center, and for this reason decided not to have our center in any coastal areas. The southern end of the Andes Mountains in Ecuador is the safest area from earthquakes, and there are no fault lines or volcanoes here. Gaia Sagrada is safe and all retreats will go on as planned.
The northern coast of Ecuador got hit pretty hard, though, so they could really use everyone’s help.
We gave already spent thousands of dollars getting several trucks of supplies to the coast through different organizations and people we trust. Those of us who can’t be on the ground doing the work,we need to financially support the people who are doing the work on the coast.
We are taking donations at https://www.umsonline.org/cf/donation.cfm
EVERY penny goes to buying supplies and trucks to take it to the coast. Not a single penny goes to administrative costs or anything like that.
Please, this one is close to my heart. These people need our help! They have no water, food, medical supplies, tents, filters, shovels, picks, tampons, baby diapers, blankets, bandages, etc. It’s pretty serious. Please join us in this effort to help our brothers and sisters.
Thank you so much for caring from your heart! Even just a little bit would be helpful, it all adds up!

Why No One Night Ceremonies? Only Retreats?

Why Doesn’t Gaia Sagrada offer One Night Ceremonies?
We have found that it takes a few ceremonies for people to get the true benefit of the medicines. The first Ayahuasca ceremony is usually more about purging and cleansing than big visions and otherworldly experiences. If you only come for one ceremony, you will most likely be disappointed. It takes more than one ceremony to reach the states that are often described on the internet. Rarely is it very much to talk about the first time.
Ayahuasca works on the physical levels first, removing darkness or illness from your system, even if you are fairly healthy. Ayahuasca prepares you first before giving you the beautiful visions you want.
We suggest that you do NOT read or listen to other people’s experiences, because Ayahuasca gives each individual what they need. It will not be the same from one person to the next. There is no rhyme or reason as to how Ayahuasca works on any given individual.
Can I come for just one or two ceremonies during a retreat?
The reason we cannot let people come as a drop in during a retreat is that it is uncomfortable for the group if a stranger comes and goes while they are in the process of a deep transformation together. The group gets really close and becomes a family. The work is delicate for the heart. They feel vulnerable if someone drops in. It’s like having a stranger at a family gathering, crashing the party so to speak.
We have to honor the process of people who have come for a deep healing or a peak spiritual enlightenment experience. We protect the retreat space so everyone feels safe in opening up if they choose to with the group. It is important that  very one knows each other.
You can come for 7 days of the 12 day retreat
You are welcome to sign up for the first 7 days of a 12 day retreat but there isn’t a discount since the spots are always filled. It is LEss expensive than any other retreat available, even  the 7 day retreats you will find in Peru! If you come for the first 6-7 days, you will get 3 ceremonies. That is the shortest retreat we can give you, and 3 ceremonies will give you a deep experience.
This is truly an amazing adventure in consciousness and healing, so we hope you can make time to do a 12 day retreat someday if you cannot do it now!
